Rescue Operations:The function of the Rescue section of the Elmer Ambulance Corps. is primarily to aid in the extrication of patients from their vehicles after a motor vehicle crash has occurred. Our Rescue, 21-9, is the primary rescue truck for our area of operations, this being Elmer Borough, Upper Pittsgrove Township, Pittsgrove Township (Fire Districts 2 &3). The actual extrication is handled by members of the squad and members of the fire departments who are certified to the Extrication Technician level or higher.
In the event of a large scale incident or a cardiac arrest, when many people will be needed, the rescue truck is also used as a means of transporting manpower. The rescue truck can double as a command vehicle and in bad weather such as snow and ice, you may see this truck in front of the ambulance as it is equipped with chains, thus providing a better driving surface for the ambulance. Rescue is a major function of the Elmer Ambulance Corps and is equally as vital as the patient care function. |
